The Vodou Garde


	The Vodou garde is a very special ceremony of protection and blessing. Within the sacred rituals of a Vodou house, the garde is perhaps the most personal, the most profound and the most special. The Vodou garde is given to a servitor, a client or a priest on what is known as "the point" of a specific lwa. The garde confers blessings and protection to those who request and honor it's magic. Our house gives the garde on the point of Papa Legba Atibon, the Great Gatekeeper and guardian of all the Mysteries in Vodou. You can request to have your garde done on the point of any lwa you choose. It is best to ask for a reading before choosing the Lwa. That way the correct energy is placed in the garde. Gardes are simply marks made by the Lwa upon your body, most often the upper arm, sometimes the back of the neck and on the palm of the hands. They are infused with herbs, oils and perfumes. They must be fed regularly, to keep teir charge, if you will. But otherwise, the commitment of a servitor is fairly low, compared with other services. The 'Point' of having a garde? To begin with, a little extra protection can serve to bring peace of mind. It can be a reminder, a kind of personal alert system for you. After having the garde, you will be under the protection of the Lwa, who will consider you theirs, and will protect and warn you against evil. You can have this garde done with just a simple ceremony or with a full dance.
