Vodou Two - Service to Lwa May 17th, 2008 in Lansdale, PA
10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Fee: $250.00
In Vodou One, we learned about the basics of Vodou, the family spirits and how
working with our ancestors can bring harmony and balance to our lives. We made a boutey for the Lwa, and learned some basic songs.
In this second class of the Vodou Series, we will learn Sevis Lwa - service to our Lwa.
Through song and dance, with ritual and purpose, we will give to you the tools needed to create a service for your Spirits, so that you and They can come into communion with one another for your benefit and Theirs!
(The Vodou Series does not need to be taken in order - if you missed one class, we
offer them year round - you can make it up later and still get the full program before choosing to kanzo!)
Service begins with personal expression - language, gesture, movement. How does
one set up an altar? Where do the ritual objects go, and how does one consecrate them for service? We will give you the necessary tools to be able to do just that - set
the altar space up correctly, aligning it as you should. Placement of objects, both sacred and secular, as well as helping to define just what those objects are, what they
are used for and how one creates the perfect arena to address the gods of Vodou.
In Vodou Two, we will also make an offering vessel for your particular spirits. It can be a vessel for your ancestors, for your Met Tet or for your favorite Lwa. Utilizing Calabash
gourds, we carve and paint our designs and ideas onto the surface, sealing it and making it a perfect altar piece in and of itself.
We will also teach you how to draw veves - the mystical ground drawings of the Lwa.
Using corn meal and a dexterous hand, we swirl and twirl our fingers, nimbly expressing the Mysteries as they show themselves to us. It's not easy - though the
Houngan makes it look that way! Then, when we have our items finished and our hearts are ready, we will offer a Vodou Service to all the Lwa, for their blessing sand gifts that are so generously given
Vodou Two - Sevis Lwa will be hosted at Sosyete du Marche's houmfor here in Pennsylvania. The cost is $250.00, and it
includes the lecture, all materials (offering vessel, handouts and prayer books), lunch and dinner, as well as the service.
Directions, what to bring and what to wear will be sent to registered attendees. We take Paypal. Mastercard, Visa and check. If you have any additional questions, please contact Mambo Vye Zo. Mesi anpil for your time!
