Houngan Domond Parizot of Jacmel, Haiti
Houngan Domond Parizot is a painter and teacher, living and working in the southern art colony of Jacmel, Haiti. Domond is a prolific artist.
He finds inspiration in his Vodou faith, in the lush hillsides outside his home and in the everyday activities of his village in Haiti. His canvases
are covered in an amazing explosion of color, energy and vibration. His favorite subject is Mama Bridgette and he expresses his love for her throughout his oeuvre.
Domond runs the Atelier d'Art, helping kids and their families find their
own voices in paint and sculpture. By buying one of Domond's paintings, you will also help him keep his dream alive - to be a well known artist, and a great provider for his family and his kids. All
proceeds go directly to the artist. We travel to Haiti twice a year, and Domond's atelier is one of our favorite stops.
I think of Domond as the spiritual heir to Andre Pierre, who also brought an energy and power to his
work, through his portraits of the Lwa.
When we last visited with him, it was Carnival in Jacmel. I asked Domo to come
downtown to see the parade and bands with us. "No Mambo, I cannot," he gracefully replied. "They are too loud, I cannot hear the Spirits speaking to me."
That is one of the secrets to his work - it is directed right from the Spirits themselves. Like all the great artists before him, Domo takes his inspiration, his
direction and his motivations directly from the world of the Lwa.
Today, Domond manifests his own unique vision of the Spirits, displaying an
amazing talent for composition, a command of color and the ability to create synergy in his images. A true master of the canvas, it's our privilege to present his work here for your purchasing pleasure.
