Badjis (Altars) - for the Spirits
A badji is the special inner sanctum of Haitian peristyles. All over Haiti, wherever you find houmfors and
peristyles, you find badjis- the sacred altar rooms of the Lwa. Often, they are closed by double doors, which are opened during a Vodou service, so the Lwa can participate with the congregation. The
badjis offered here on the the Vodou Store are smaller versions of what you find in a Haitian temple. Each one is created specifically for the Lwa it houses. The colors, decorations and pakets are all
chosen for their specificity to the Lwa. Each comes with an explanation of the Lwa, the foods that are traditionally given as offerings and instructions for a simple service you can do for that
particular Lwa. These badjis can be kept out in public areas, with their doors closed, and opened when you wish to commune with the Lwa or to share your service with them. Either way, each is a lovely
and personal altar, a place to serve the Spirits when you do not have the space to create temple room for them.
