The Lwa are not gods. They are beautiful, sentient beings, with power and majesty all their own. They walk with their servitors daily, aiding with work, comforting the sick, taking care of business. These are not dainty ladies who do lunch. They are strong, magnificent beings with powers equal to (and sometimes greater) than their male counterparts. They dress in beautiful rays of light and water, but make no mistake - they take no prisoners in their daily round of work. Meet some of them and see for yourself...

There is LaSiren, the mermaid. Half fish, half human she rules the oceans with her husband Agwe Tawayo, himself a demi-divine being. All the ceaseless movement of the water, all the wealth and power of the ocean belongs to her. In her realm, your dreams really can come true...

Walk with Ezili Danto, the market woman who walks miles each day to market with a child on her hip and basket on her head. There she will sit all day in the sun and bargain with anyone willing to meet her eye. Can you best her at the game she so enjoys? Or will your offer enrage her to fight for the freedom of a nation?

Dance with Erzulie Freda, as she employs her wiles of illusion to get what she so desires. But her power is not of this world and so the finest things cannot satisfy her. Her truth is much deeper and she can move heaven to find it’s counterpart on earth...

The light of dawn is Ayizan, seeking for a clean truth here on planet earth. The palm and the light are her powers -- a realm so far and so pure, it can only be seen by the eyes of an initiate at dawn. But for those with a pure heart, there is another way...

These are but four of the many feminine energies that live, walk and exist in the Caribbean basin. They are not re-membered myths, but living, sentient beings that will gladly touch those who are open to their gifts. They are specific to the island of Haiti, but they live in all the realms of that we seek. And they are not just for women, but for men as well. In the island faith of Vodou, men as often have one of these ladies as their Met Tet, as they do a male Lwa.  Masculine and Feminine, morally neutral, openly androgynous, the Lwa seek those they wish to commune with. There is a saying in Vodou:  “The Lwa choose who They will” -- a reference to their ability to pick their servitors based on their own desires and wills.

Come find out about their power. Seek the gifts they all carry and are willing to share with those who approach them. Find yourself among their stories, in their abilities and through their lives. Come visit with the Goddesses of the Caribbean and see if you are not welcome among their many realms.
